Laughing Earth Farm Tour + Potluck

Tour starts at 6pm, Potluck starts at 7pm

Zack and Annie Metzger have been the stewards of Laughing Earth Farm since 2015/2016.

Laughing Earth has been an active farm for over 200 years, and as of December 2017, is protected by an easement to be Farmland Forever. The easement is held by the Agricultural Stewardship Association, and would not have been possible without the funding from New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets and assistance from Equity Trust and Scenic Hudson. Additional support came from American Farmland Trust and Hudson Valley Agribusiness Development Corporation. This farm is truly a testament to the power of community, and the importance of making connections.

Crop Insurance for Small Farms

HVYFC is working with the National Young Farmers Coalition, Cornell University, and the USDA on a training on how the USDA's Whole Farm Revenue Insurance program and other subsidized crop insurance options might work for small and mid-scale farms like yours.  Yes, insurance for the small, diversified farm!  This free evening workshop, organized by HVYFC and hosted by the Hudson Valley Farm Hub, is your opportunity to learn how and why to check out this program.

Cornell Extension Associate (and young farmer) Ariana Taylor-Stanley will share the basics of how cropinsurance works, special discounted and free options for beginning and diversified farmers, and new web tools to help you quickly explore options for your farm. Come check out what's available - even if it's not right for 2017, know what's out there and connect with other farmers.  (We promise it's more fun than shoveling snow off your greenhouse!)
